Sooke Brewing Company

Located in the centre of town, the Sooke Brewing Company facility has a West Coast design inspired by its surroundings. The front entrance features a large tree trunk and stone is used as an accent to the red and black steel exterior.

The facility houses both the brewery and a tasting room.

BCAA Auto Service Centre Victoria

After a successful development in Nanaimo, BCAA looked at Victoria for their next Auto Service Centre location.

Situated on Bay Street, the building’s sharp looking design is based around the same concept as its Nanaimo counterpart.

The team involved rose to the challenge of fitting the required program efficiently on a compact site.

Al Charron Rugby Canada National Training Centre

The Training Centre in Langford was developed in partnership with Rugby Canada, the Government of Canada and City of Langford.

The 1,900 square metre, two storey facility was designed to create the best daily training environment possible and features a state of the art gymnasium, onsite therapy and treatment rooms, hydrotherapy pools, locker rooms, meeting rooms set up for video analysis, kitchen and dining lounge and three double occupancy studio units.

Environmental features include the use of rainwater leaders and a storm drain system to drain water into rock pits.

On the Park

On The Park consists of two, four storey buildings with 32 units in total. The modern contemporary building allows for highly functional living spaces with low maintenance materials used for interior and\ exterior finishes. The buildings cater to an urban lifestyle with large floor to ceiling windows and patios and decks with tempered glass and steel railings.

Legato is a 17 storey high-rise condominium in downtown Victoria. The building is a reflection and celebration of West Coast beauty designed with steps joined together by gently curving balconies, southern sun exposure, ocean and mountain views from all units and the use of natural colours and materials.

Green features include a high performance building envelope, minimized thermal bridging of balconies, concrete external shear walls to provide thermal mass, a storm-water management system integrated into the rooftop garden and dedicated electric car charging stations.

Urbanité is a mixed use four storey building that adds to the commercial vitality of its emerging neighborhood. Building materials including specialty cladding materials of composite concrete board and V-Line metal cladding were selected for longevity, aesthetics and low maintenance upkeep. An irrigation drip system in the landscaping and deck planters minimizes water consumption while maintaining green spaces.

Other environmental features include bike storage, an electric car charger, a MODO car share membership for every tenant and a central hot water tank which eliminates the need to operate 15 separate tanks.

Historically speaking

The Commercial Building Awards were started in 1991 by a group of REALTORS® who were concerned that commercial development within the Greater Victoria area was not receiving the recognition it deserved.

The Commercial Building Awards competition is recognized among architects, builders and developers and the real estate community as a prestigious event dedicated to the advancement of excellence in construction and design. Because of its success, the Victoria Commercial Building Awards program is now being emulated by various real estate boards throughout BC and across Canada.

The Commercial Division of the Victoria Real Estate Board is dedicated to advancement in quality developments and to encouraging a better environment within our community and is proud to sponsor this annual competition.
