The new Belmont Secondary School is home to 1,200 grade 9-12 students. Its prominent location links to an established community to a rapidly growing area.
Belmont Secondary supports current and forward looking education best practices.The principal academic spaces are each home to approximately 150 students. These smaller units personalize learning, assist collaboration and cross curricular teaching as well as reduce student isolation. The physical environment is designed to transform by means of overhead doors and moveable walls.
The building is targeting LEED Gold Certification, incorporating the optimized energy performance of a mechanical system based on an air-source heat pump and displacement ventilation. The sun-filled atrium provides opportunities for passive ventilation and heat recovery. Other green initiatives include reduced heat island effect, water efficient landscaping, use of regional landscaping, use of regional and recycled materials, a high standard of indoor air quality and measures for a durable building including wood structural elements in the major social areas.
The Crag X Indoor Climbing Centre is a bold and significant investment in downtown Victoria that offers residents access to a world class urban climbing centre. To create an open interior space, this building was designed with 50’ perimeter insulated precast concrete wall panels. Story Construction’s crew had the challenging task of erecting and placing the 80,000 lb panels within inches of adjoining properties, all within the span of five days. The expansive glass storefront maximizes natural light for climbers and the building’s specialized mechanical systems are designed to ensure a fresh air environment, which can be a challenge for chalk filled indoor gyms. The interior climbing walls were imported from a specialized Bulgarian company and installed onsite.
This striking and dynamic building has led the way in the revitalization of the streetscape and culture of the Pandora corridor.
Promenade on Jacklin is a 52 unit purpose-built rental apartment building in Langford.
It was designed with crisp lines and colours to offer a fresh take on the multi-family building. It offers larger than average units, including one bedroom, one plus den, two bedrooms and even three bedroom units. It is within walking distance to many of Langford’s amenities, including shopping centres and schools. Residents can also enjoy a rooftop patio with BBQ. Green features include motion activated hallway lighting.
