TIMES COLONIST COMMUNITY AWARD
This 10,000 sq. ft., 10 bedroom building located on the property of the Victoria General Hospital was designed under the leadership of the Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island (then known as the Queen Alexandra Foundation), Durwest Construction Management and Alan Lowe Architect Inc. The project was completed within 18 months, with nine months of construction from conceptual design to occupancy. Inspired by the dream and vision of Jeneece Edroff, a young girl (aged seven when the project started and 18 upon completion) living with neurofibromatosis, this $6.5 million project was designed to create a home away from home for families of children in hospital or treatment.
