EXCELLENCE AWARD FOR MIXED USE
This project is the result of a team effort combining the skills and dedication of developer, consultants, and construction team towards a common goal to develop a mixed commercial/residential building that fits into its environment, is aesthetically pleasing and incorporates sustainable features. The low profile, articulated form, palette of quality exterior materials and the pedestrian-friendly frontage makes this project, at the southeast corner of Cook and Oscar Streets, a gateway to the Cook Street Village.
EXCELLENCE AWARD FOR INSTITUTIONAL
This new academic building complements the character and form of the historic buildings and heritage attributes of Hatley Park in a contemporary manner. The strategic location of the building establishes it as a gateway to the academic core of Royal Roads University’s campus. The structure is reinforced by the four-storey atrium and axial alignment through the use of steps and plazas, flowing from the original Neptune stairs and landing created for Hatley Castle in 1908. Designed to LEED Gold standards.
EXCELLENCE AWARD FOR HERITAGE RENOVATION
This project was a complete restoration and full seismic upgrade of one of the most significant historical buildings in Victoria that was home to an iconic Canadian business: The Hudson Bay Company. It involved the conversion of a commercial-only building into mixed use, the conversion of the existing attached above-ground parkade into underground parking, the creation of a new façade and the construction of two partial additional floors.
EXCELLENCE AWARD FOR COMMUNITY
Camas Gardens provides 44 units of supportive housing to those at-risk of homelessness. Humboldt Street is a dichotomy of architectural typologies, from high end modern condominiums and colourful heritage buildings, to seniors’ residences and 1970’s apartments. This project sought to translate this diversity with a contemporary architectural solution that is durable and welcoming, restoring an important piece of the city fabric. Designed to LEED Gold standards.
EXCELLENCE AWARD FOR COMMERCIAL – RENOVATION
The project goal was to modernize the outdated feel of this building’s exterior while maintaining high green standards. The concept was to update the fascia design, modernize the colour palette, incorporate domestic cedar and add some texture with real stone veneer. Along with the addition of new awning designs and contemporary lighting, this building now offers high street appeal and improved modern aesthetics.
EXCELLENCE AWARD FOR COMMERCIAL – RETAIL
This building features a signature glass showroom wall that has energetic and modern forms that are solid, but seem to glow within. The butt glazed system has a white fritted pattern and areas with frosted diffusers. Aluminum composite metal panels, stucco, and stone veneer complete the building and tie it in with the surrounding buildings.
